Copywriting Is An Art Form All Home Business Owners Must Know

I’ll bet when you started your home based business you had no idea that you would have to master the art of copywriting. Or did you? Copywriting is art that some lucky people are born with, but if you’re like me and you need to learn it then I have some useful tips to keep prospects on your page.

First of all let me say don’t shy away from this task. The one thing every home business owner should learn is copywriting. This task like most tasks in your business can be outsourced to places like Elance, Rent a Coder or Guru.com, but learning this art will open more doors for you than any other skill you can acquire.

The first step any home business owner should take is to know your target market. When you start outlining your web copy or sales letter you MUST know who you’re talking to. If you don’t understand them and what they what you don’t have a chance in hell of solving any problem for them.

So below are a few tips every copywriter should know when preparing to write.

The Headline –this is the most important part of any copy whether its direct mail or web copy. You want this to be attention grabbing; it needs to be so irresistible your prospect has to click to read more.

To attract the prospect it must be worded so that it solves a problem they are experiencing, takes away some painful experience or emotion or it helps them to achieve a goal or desire for them.

The Body –here you want to provide your prospect with the potential solution to their problem. Bullet points work really well here. They should highlight the benefits of your product or service. This is not a hard sell that will turn them away. And it should give them all the information about your product and why they should buy from you.

Within the body you should always frame your product around solving the problem or offering a solution. Use emotional words that trigger feelings in your reader, compelling enough to want them to take action.

The Call to Action -provide them with an opt-in offer to get them to your product or service. Some marketers offer e-Books, training or other product bonuses. The idea here is to exchange information, their name and email address for the bonus and detail on your product or services.

Most of this you already know but may not know you do. You read it all the time with the sales letters and emails you receive. Read them closing and follow what the experts are doing. That’s how they are making the big bucks. Learn and duplicate their techniques.

Many of the top Internet marketers will tell you that you should find a good sales letter and write it out on paper. This gives you a feel for the flow and helps you to get into the grove of the flow.

I am not going to tell you I’m a great copy writer. I am learning every day. But here are few of the mentors I have gathered along the way that have helped be with perfecting this art form.
